Chat Problems

No response, or very slow response.

Our helpers backend is OpenAI (better known as Chat GPT). A very slow response, no response, or partial/nonsense response from a chat helper means that OpenAI is experiencing network overload or server issues outside of my control. Try again later, or rephrase the question.

Chat Problems - bad response.

The app is in development and the nature of AI is that sometimes it will get confused. This system is not intended to replace the official sources of knowledge, and if you’re unsure about anything you should consult the proper sources and ask the right people. I am working on a method to easily report inappropriate answers so the system can be fine tuned.

How does this work?

“The Helpers” app works in conjunction with OpenAI’s “Chat GPT” through their API system which allows developers to build 3rd party apps that harness the power of chat GPT. Users of the API can build customised (and private) chat systems that can be trained with specialised knowledge, simply by uploading relevant documents such as PDF files, etc. The customised system is protected by security keys, and information in the files provided stays “within the walls” of the customised system. The chat system reads and learns this extra knowledge, to provide a customised chat experience only for those who can access the customised system.

Is this a chat bot?

Yes. Each helper is a very smart (but not perfect) chat bot. It has general knowledge of the real world, as well as specialised knowledge in the relevant topics it specialises in.

Why are there multiple helpers?

During testing I found the responses to be faster and more reliable if helpers specialised in their own fields.

What can it do?

You can ask the helper any kind of question about the material that it’s been trained on. They have been instructed not to stray from the topic. When you select a helper you’ll have an opportunity to see the exact documents it has been trained on. You can also ask the helper to quiz you on courseware topics.

Why didn’t my helper give me the right answer, or couldn’t find an answer?

First, check you are asking the right helper. Each helper has been trained in a certain set of documents. For example - the Signals and Safeworking courseware helper won’t be able to answer a question about Route Knowledge. Also try rephrasing your question.

Can I speak to it instead of typing?

Yes - instead of typing your questions you can press the Microphone icon on your smartphone keyboard and talk your question, which will be converted to text.

Can it speak to me?

This might be added at a later date.
